Waiting On Wednesday {13}

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill over at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Excepted Publication: March 5th 2013 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

When We WakeMy name is Tegan Oglietti, and on the last day of my first lifetime, I was so, so happy.

Sixteen-year-old Tegan is just like every other girl living in 2027 - she's happiest when playing the guitar, she's falling in love for the first time, and she's joining her friends to protest the wrongs of the world: environmental collapse, social discrimination, and political injustice.

But on what should have been the best day of Tegan's life, she dies - and wakes up a hundred years in the future, locked in a government facility with no idea what happened.

Tegan is the first government guinea pig to be cryonically frozen and successfully revived, which makes her an instant celebrity - even though all she wants to do is try to rebuild some semblance of a normal life. But the future isn't all she hoped it would be, and when appalling secrets come to light, Tegan must make a choice: Does she keep her head down and survive, or fight for a better future?

Award-winning author Karen Healey has created a haunting, cautionary tale of an inspiring protagonist living in a not-so-distant future that could easily be our own.

I've never actually read anything by Karen Healey, even though practically all her YA books are on my to-read shelf! I'm kind of surprised and not surprised to find dystopian/futuristic novels still coming out to play, but I guess that has to do with the success of the Hunger Games film. Do you guys like that this genre is still going strong with new releases being set and manuscripts being brought?

Link me up your WOW and I'll pop on over!

  1. This one has been a popular choice... but really the cover reminds me of Beta by Rachel Cohn. I'm definitely looking forward on this book!

  5. I'm about to run out of YA screaming from all the dystopian novels (I haven't been a fan of that trend but for one or two exceptions) still getting published, but I hope you love the novel when you get to read it! And I can't say I wouldn't see that cover in the bookstore. Lighter covers like this always catch my eye.

Hey, you there, yes you ;)

Thanks for commenting! This is seriously awesome and I promise to try my hardest to get back to you, so do check back if you had a question or something to discuss!

Sadly, this is an award free blog. I really, really appreciate the thought and offer but with grade twelve and other activities as well as blogging, I don't really have all the spare time in the world. But thank you so much for the thought!

Seriously, though. Check back because I love to reply to comments ;)

Ellen.
