Sawyer Dodd has it all. She's a star track athlete, choir soloist, and A-student. And her boyfriend is the handsome all-star Kevin Anderson. But behind the medals, prom pictures, and perfect smiles, Sawyer finds herself trapped in a controlling, abusive relationship with Kevin. When he dies in a drunk-driving accident, Sawyer is secretly relieved. She's free. Until she opens her locker and finds a mysterious letter signed by "an admirer" and printed with two simple words: "You're welcome."
How could you not want this? It reminds me so much of the TV show Pretty Little Liars in the way that this person is helping them get what they want but in the worst way imaginable. Love it!

My picture is on page eighteen of Noble High's Phoenix yearbook. I am one of the Phoenix Five. You nominated me. You thought I was one of the most outstanding students in our freshman class. You were wrong.
Still, I accepted my award. I acted special. But I couldn't help wondering what it was like to be that way for real. So I broke into Ms. Silver's safe in the faculty lounge and stole all five of our journals. I'm not exposing them out of jealousy or anger. I'm doing this because I am tired of the lies. The bar is too high, and cheating is the only way to reach it. Instagrams are filtered, Facebook profiles are embellished, photos are shopped, Manti T'eo's girlfriend was a fake...is anything real anymore?
I found the answer in our journals. These are 100 percent real and 100 percent unedited. The proof is in the pages:
We're all pretenders.
This sounds like a revenge-ish story, so of course I am all for it! I must sound so sadistic to some of you by judging from my previous WOW picks, but come on! How could you not want a story like this? All the power to you, girl!
Link me to your WOW posts and I'll stop on by :)
P.S What do you think of the new blog design?
I've already heard of TRULY, MADLY, DEADLY before and it does sound kinda Pretty little liars but I still wanna read it, mostly because of the cover :P
ReplyDeleteAlso I HAVE NEVER heard of THE PRETENDERS. I know of Lisi's other books but this one actually sounds pretty different than the rest. I like the idea of learning the REAL people through there journals! HAD to add to my TBR pile!
Thanks for stopping by the blog, NEW follower :) <3 the blog design. Nice and simple. Also sorry about the long comment ^_^
-Great WoW pick Ellen,
Lisseth @ Read-A-holicZ
*headdesk* It's 2:00 am and I misspelled Elle...>_< sorry!
DeleteThe funniest thing is that you spelled it "Ellen" correctly the first time and corrected it by mispelling it to "Elle" in the second comment :P But it's completely fine! I love long comments, they're engaging.
DeleteSEEMS LIKE A NICE READ <3 INTRIGUING TITLE AND A CREEPY PLOT LOL

I really want to read Truly, Madly, Deadly too! It sounds awesomely creepy.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog!
Truly Madly Deadly sounds absolutely epic! I'm really looking forward to it too
ReplyDeleteMy WoW :)
I've seen the first book you have featured around, and it does sound interesting. The second one, this is my first time to come across it -- not sure how I feel about all the social media references it made in the summary. Sometimes when books use current, "what's popular" at the moment references, it loses some of the effect on the story, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteAh, I never thought of it like that. I'm hoping though that it's more revolved around exposing the truths. I think it largely resembles society pretty well that one sentence: "Instagrams are filtered, Facebook profiles are embellished, photos are shopped, Manti T'eo's girlfriend was a fake...is anything real anymore?"
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Truly, Madly, Deadly looks creepy and dark and addictive. I hope it's as good as it looks!
