Review: Fated by Sarah Alderson

Review:

Fated left a good taste in my mouth after I finished the last page. The story is about a girl named Evie who turns out to be the last Hunter, as in family line not hobby/profession.

I liked Evie. She was stubborn in a good way and was able to admit her mistakes and sometimes tried to fix them. When she was angry, she let people know and when she had enough you definitely knew. Evie definitely carried the novel in some parts of the novel and our other favourite character Lucas was quick to the scene.

I did feel like there feelings were rushed. In one part of the novel Evie was about to kill Lucas and a few chapters later there was a declaration of love. I did, however, understand it from his point of view chapters which I really enjoyed reading. I wish there were a few more of them.

The world building, while at first with the point of view switch was a little complicated, was easy to understand. And while I didn't understand calling one of the creatures "Thirsters" instead of vampires (even when they're compared to vamps), I got over it. I actually think Alderson should have kept them as vampires because they were definitely unique with the tail and blindness and all. But that was my only nit-picky complaint. I found the rest believable and easy to understand.

The writing was nice and not too scabby or overdoing in any aspect. Even though I did mention that I didn't feel the love between characters, I don't believe this holds the novel back in any way because the love story isn't a focus at all. I takes a very big backseat stage and allows the training and action (which I think Alderson wrote well) to take the big stage.

Fated was my first novel by Alderson, even though I've heard many great things about Hunting Lila. And Fated probably won't be my last. Fated was left open for a sequel and while I can't find any news on a next novel, I have my fingers crossed very tightly.
